Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 20 g sugar
  • 4 g (1 teaspoon) instant yeast
  • 3 g (1 teaspoon) salt
  • 80 ml warm milk
  • 30 g unsalted butter, softened

For the Garlic Sauce:

  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 0.5 tablespoons chopped green onion
  • 1 tablespoon egg (lightly beaten)
  • 13 g unsalted butter, softened

For the Topping:

  • 140 g shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

1. Prepare the Dough

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the wheat flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt. Mix thoroughly.
  • Add the warm milk and egg to the dry ingredients. Stir until the mixture forms a dough.
  • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  • Gradually incorporate the softened butter into the dough, kneading until fully absorbed.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

2. Prepare the Garlic Sauce

  • In a small bowl, mix the minced garlic, mayonnaise, sugar, chopped green onion, lightly beaten egg, and softened butter.
  • Stir until the sauce is smooth and well combined. Set aside.

3. Shape and Fill the Dough

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • Punch down the risen dough to release air bubbles.
  • Divide the dough into equal portions and roll each into a ball.
  • Flatten each ball slightly and spoon a small amount of garlic sauce into the center.
  • Fold the edges over the filling and pinch to seal, forming a ball again.

4. Coat and Add Toppings

  • Arrange the filled dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, seam-side down.
  • Brush the tops of the dough balls with the remaining garlic sauce.
  • Sprinkle a generous layer of shredded mozzarella cheese on top of each ball.

5. Bake the Garlic Bread

  • Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven and let the bread cool slightly before serving.

6. Serve and Enjoy
Serve the garlic bread warm as a standalone snack or a side dish. The cheesy topping and garlicky flavor make it a perfect companion to soups, salads, or pasta.
