Donut Stuffed with Strawberry Cream: A Sweet Breakfast Delight

  • Author: Annabel
  • Total Time: 1 hour 40 minutes (includes rise time)
  • Yield: 10 donuts

Description

Indulge in the irresistible combination of fluffy donuts and rich, creamy strawberry filling. Perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a special treat, these homemade donuts are a sweet delight your whole family will love.

Ingredients

For the Donuts:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk (about 110°F)
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • Vegetable oil (enough for deep frying)

For the Strawberry Cream Filling:

  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup strawberry jam
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Prepare the Donut Dough

  • In a large bowl, combine the warm milk and active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  • Stir in the granulated sugar, egg, melted butter, and salt. Mix until combined.
  • Gradually add the all-purpose flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. If the dough feels sticky, sprinkle in a little more flour.

Knead and Let Rise

  • Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

Shape the Donuts

  • After the dough has risen, gently punch it down to release air.
  • Roll out the dough to about ½ inch thick on a floured surface.
  • Use a 3-inch round cutter to cut out donut shapes. Place them on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover with a damp cloth, and let them rise for another 30 minutes.

Fry the Donuts

  • Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  • Fry a few donuts at a time, cooking each side for 1-2 minutes until golden brown.
  • Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.

Make the Strawberry Cream Filling

  • In a medium bowl, whip the heavy cream with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form.
  • Gently fold in the strawberry jam and vanilla extract until well combined.

Fill the Donuts

  • Once the donuts are cool enough to handle, use a piping nozzle or small knife to create a hole in the side of each donut.
  • Spoon the strawberry cream into a piping bag fitted with a round tip. Pipe the filling generously into each donut.

Serve and Enjoy

  • Dust the donuts with powdered sugar for an extra touch of sweetness, if desired.
  • Serve fresh and enjoy the perfect combination of fluffy donuts and creamy strawberry filling.

Notes

  • Use warm milk to activate the yeast properly; it should feel warm to the touch, not hot.
  • Keep an eye on the oil temperature to avoid undercooking or burning the donuts.
  • The donuts are best served fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to one day.
